Description:
Photograph in rectangular format and horizontal layout. In a medium shot, Francisco Araneda, artist and ad-honorem MAPA curator, is sitting, measuring a silver trapelakucha (chest pendant) arranged horizontally on a table. On the table, there are also three trapelakucha and an istipu (stirrup) made from the same material. On the upper edge are three istipu arranged randomly next to a rectangular plastic box. The pieces are part of MAPA’s Platería Mapuche (Mapuche silver-smithing) collection.
Context:
This collection was shown in the Platería Araucana (Araucanian silver-smithing) exhibition made during the 80s in the Contemporary Art Museum (MAC) from Parque Forestal (MAPA headquarter 1981-1997), in the Organization of American States (OAS) room, located in Washington D.C. and other cities in Chile. Before these exhibitions, the Platería Mapuche collection went through a revision, cataloging, and curating process, on account of its damaged condition, made by academics from the Arts Department of Universidad de Chile. These pictures are part of a project by Julio Tobar (director 1981-1995) to extend the MAPA files.
