Description:

Photograph in rectangular format and vertical layout. In a long shot, the director Sylvia Ríos is cutting a blue label inside the new museum headquarters with Luis Merino, dean of the Arts department, and Jaime Lavados, rector.

Context:

In September 1997, the Arts department rented a property in Compañía #2691 to reopen the museum after 12 years without a physical space for its exhibitions, as a consequence of an earthquake, in 1985 that damaged the Contemporary Art Museum’s storage rooms in the temporary MAPA headquarter. In May 1998, the assembly and promotion of the permanent exhibition Manos de Chile (Hands of Chile) started, to be opened in July of that year under the supervision of Sylvia Ríos (1996-2000).
