Description:

Photograph in rectangular format and horizontal layout. In a medium shot, the artist Hernán Cordero is sitting holding a silver istipu (stirrup) to label it. On the table, there is another istipu made from the same material. At the back are three reredos and a decorative ship, part of the museum’s collections. The stirrups are part of MAPA’s Platería Mapuche (Mapuche silver-smithing) collection.

Context:

This collection was shown in the Platería Araucana (Araucanian silver-smithing) exhibition made during the 80s in the Contemporary Art Museum (MAC) from Parque Forestal (MAPA headquarter 1981-1997), in the Organization of American States (OAS) room, located in Washington D.C. and other cities in Chile. Before these exhibitions, the Platería Mapuche collection went through a revision, cataloging, and curating process, on account of its damaged condition, made by academics from the Arts Department of Universidad de Chile. These pictures are part of a project by Julio Tobar (director 1981-1995) to extend the MAPA files.
