Description:
Photograph in rectangular format and vertical layout. In a medium shot, María Teresa Riveros (apparently), an artist and ad-honorem curator of MAPA, is sitting restoring a piece from the Platería Mapuche (Mapuche silver-smithing) exhibition. She’s explicitly sewing the silver cupulillas (tiny balls) from a ngütrowe (braiding corsé). The corsé is over a table next to the sewing toolkit.
Context:
This collection was shown in the Platería Araucana (Araucanian silver-smithing) exhibition made during the 80s in the Contemporary Art Museum (MAC) from Parque Forestal (MAPA headquarter 1981-1997), in the Organization of American States (OAS) room, located in Washington D.C. and other cities in Chile. Before these exhibitions, the Platería Mapuche collection went through a revision, cataloging, and curating process, on account of its damaged condition, made by academics from the Arts Department of Universidad de Chile. These pictures are part of a project by Julio Tobar (director 1981-1995) to extend the MAPA files.
