Context:

It is part of the Platería Araucana (Araucanian silver-smithing) exhibition, opened by the latest MAPA temporary headquarter in the Contemporary Art Museum (MAC) facilities in Parque Forestal. The change was made due to the damage and lack of maintenance in Castillo Hidalgo, in Santa Lucía Hill, the museum’s headquarters since 1944. Julio Tobar (director 1981-1995) supported the idea of starting with this exhibition due to its good attendance in its previous versions in Castillo Hidalgo. The objects from the Platería Mapuche (Mapuche silver-smithing) collection were acquired by MAPA by the Universidad de Chile from Pedro Doyharcabal, an art collector, in 1946.
