Description:

Photograph in rectangular format and horizontal layout. Long shot of the exhibition showroom. On the left side, there’s a carved large piece with a human head shape, called chemamul, held by a metal plinth. On the right side, there’s a similar object, called kemukemu, with a long form and carved steps. At the top, it has a human face shape. Both are aligned and face-to-face. At the back, a wall with textiles exhibiting Mapuche masks, called kollon. These are part of the MAPA’s Mapuche collection.

Context:

The Platería Araucana (Araucanian silver-smithing) exhibition belongs to one of the international exhibitions of the museum. This collection, recently renamed Colección Mapuche (Mapuche Collection) was exhibited in the Bellas Artes National Museum of Argentina in 1966. The exhibition was opened on September 7th and remained open until September 22nd. It displayed over 390 pieces from that collection, formed by silver pieces such as the apero, stirrups, spurs, earrings, rings, and breast guards. It was also by textiles, wooden objects, leather, basket making, and musical instruments.
