Description:

Photograph in rectangular format and horizontal layout. In a medium shot, there’s the façade of the Rio de Janeiro’s Bellas Artes Museum in Brazil. The neoclassic building has three continuous entrances divided in squared colonnades, two of which have large blue prints with information related to the MAPA’s Arte Mapuche (Mapuche Art) exhibition. It also includes a photo of a keltatuwe (brooch) from the same collection. The second large print contains general information about Rio de Janeiro’s Bellas Artes Museum.

Context:

Under the direction of Sylvia Ríos, the American Folk Art Museum carried out an itinerant exhibition of Arte Mapuche (Mapuche Art) in the Bellas Artes Museum of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, in 1999. It was opened on July 27th and remained open until July 25th. It was part of the European Union, Latin America, and the Caribbean Summit. It was possible to exhibit pieces made by famous Mapuche artisans from that time, such as Lorenzo Cona, Paula Pilquinao, and Dominga Neculman.
