Context:
Tomás Lago (director 1943-1968) carried out a Folk Art seminar in the Bellas Artes school of the Universidad de Chile, intending to educate the faculty as part of the Secondary School’s progressive renovation plan. This way, future teachers would have enough means to study and catalog Chilean folk art, encourage cultural identity, and preserve national customs and traditions. To that effect, he proposed to make field trips in Chile and abroad. Some photos were taken by members of the photo-cinematography department, such as the renowned photographers Roberto Montandón and Domingo Ulloa.
