Photograph in rectangular format and horizontal layout. In a big long shot, a group of people is looking at objects in an exhibition glass cabinet in an enclosed space. On the left side, at the back, cabinets are arranged horizontally. On the right side, in close-up, there are cabinets arranged vertically.
Context:
It is part of the Platería Araucana (Araucanian silver-smithing) exhibition, opened by the latest MAPA temporary headquarter in the Contemporary Art Museum (MAC) facilities in Parque Forestal. The change was made due to the damage and lack of maintenance in Castillo Hidalgo, in Santa Lucía Hill, the museum’s headquarters since 1944. Julio Tobar (director 1981-1995) supported the idea of starting with this exhibition due to its good attendance in its previous versions in Castillo Hidalgo. The objects from the Platería Mapuche (Mapuche silver-smithing) collection were acquired by MAPA by the Universidad de Chile from Pedro Doyharcabal, an art collector, in 1946.
